If your scales weigh unjustly,
If your tongue wounds hearts,
If your hands give and take bribes,
What meaning has the prayer you perform?

If you swear falsely,
If you walk crooked behind your spouse’s back,
If you tell the unjust, “You are right,”
What meaning is there in going on pilgrimage?

If you build floors with unlawful wealth,
If you consume the orphan’s share,
If you stand side by side with disbelief,
What meaning has the alms you give?

ما معناه؟

إذا لم يكن فيك إحساسُ الرحمة،
فما معنى صيامك؟

إذا لم يكن على مائدتك مكانٌ للفقير،
فما معنى أن تجوع شهرًا كاملًا؟

إذا كان ميزانك مائلًا،
وكان لسانك يؤذي القلوب،
وكانت يدك تأخذ الرشوة وتعطيها،
فما معنى صلاتك؟

إذا حلفتَ زورًا،
وسلكتَ طريقًا معوجًّا دون علم زوجك،
وقلتَ للظالم: أنتَ على حق،
فما معنى ذهابك إلى الحج؟

إذا بنيتَ طوابق بمالٍ حرام،
وأكلتَ حقَّ اليتيم،
وكنتَ مع أهل الكفر،
فما معنى إخراجك للزكاة؟
